Celebrating 10 Years Sober

I recently celebrated 10 years of sobriety and I can’t believe it has been 10 years already.

It seems like just yesterday I almost died of alcohol poisoning. That was at my worst state when everybody had finally had enough of my shit. From jobs to family to whatever, I almost drank myself to death 10 years ago.

Now here I am now, enjoying life and music, opportunities to help others, getting around. I try to do as much service work as I can that God and time allow. The program that I work continues to save my life every day.

If you’re celebrating your sobriety milestone, you might think the party is over.

But the thing is now the party is Life - it’s enjoying relationships and activities, making it about time instead of letting people and myself down from being drunk and too afraid to go anywhere.

18 and Life - what the song means to me

I remember rocking out to this song when I was a teenager, cruising in my car and banging my head to Skid Row, and the parties we had and the good times back then. It seemed like it was so cool to be bad.

But this song also has other values for me, as I have dealt with the consequences of what alcohol can bring, Broken homes, broken bones, near death, depression, anger, over night jail time, and the list goes on and on.

I also have a son that has spent sometime behind bars for his consequences with drugs and alcohol, and the last three years I haven’t been able to see him much because of it. It sucks and it’s sad, but I have a higher power and that is GOD that helps me keep it real in life now.

18 and Life is what can happen if you turn to the dark side in Life. We all do bad shit in life but some of us get caught, and eventually we all suffer the consequences, whether it’s jail for real, or jail in our minds.

Tattoos

I love the art of tattoos.  Tattoos for me are definition of good times, bad times, different things that happened for me in my life.

Basically they explain who I am.

Define who I am.

I don’t find tattoos to be trashy.  Unless of course they’ve been done by a bad tattoo artist.  Then they may look trashy.

They hurt like hell sometimes.  But it’s worth it.
